Why?

As the years pass, although we may purchase a gift or two (for my 8 yr old nephew and, of course, my Mom), I realize that the most important and most precious gift we give to one another is our "presence" and our attention.  In other words, when it comes to family, giving the "gift of yourself" is worth more than any store-bought item.

During the holiday season, do you feel compelled to
buy gifts because it's expected?
Do you go overboard to prove something to others or
to feel good about yourself?

Sharing your gifts and talents to support your family is absolutely the sweetest blessing and God is glorified!  But most often, we focus on the wrong things:  "What" rather than "Why"

Not only do we get caught up in "the what of it all", I believe we dishonor this season with materialism by using the excuse that Jesus wasn't really born in December! The fact is "When" He was born, is NOT the issue at all!  Let me illustrate:

My brother's birth date has always been a topic of controversy in our family.  His birth certificate says one thing, but for some reason (we've never been able to figure it out), the actual time that marks an "official" birth by the doctor was really the day "after" the recorded date.  So for years, we would celebrate the first date, but my brother always acknowledged the second date as his official birthday! Crazy right?

What's more important?  That he was born or when he was born?  Of course! I know you chose the right answer!  He's here!  He has a life, with dreams and aspirations like everyone else! He has made a contribution to society. He has God-given gifts, talents and abilities!  He was not a mistake!  God ordained his birth and brought it to pass no matter the circumstances!

God loves my brother.  In fact, He sent His only begotten Son to die for him.  His blood was shed for the remission of his sins.  Salvation, healing and deliverance were purchased for him on The Cross!

You see the real question to ask is not WHEN Jesus was born, but WHY?

The penalty for sin is death; but the Gift of God is eternal life!  "God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son; that whosoever believes on Him shall have everlasting life!" (John 3:16).
That's WHY He was born and that's WHY He died!

What a precious gift!  Do you celebrate because you actually have a relationship with Him?  Is it because you love Him?  Is it because you realize the price He paid for your liberty?  Or is it just for the "things" you've received?

You may have received many store-bought gifts; but none is more precious than the Gift of God through Jesus Christ. RECEIVE Him TODAY!  Having His presence and attention in your life will make your life worth living! You'll never want for anything else!

Therefore, during the Christmas season:
