Crucified with Christ
Read: Romans 6:1-6
The season of Lent has officially begun starting on February 13, 2013, Ash Wednesday. Lent begins 40 days prior to Easter Sunday. It is a time of preparation through repentance and a recommitment to our walk with the Lord. It's a time to prepare our hearts for recognition of Christ's death, burial and resurrection. Our highest goal should be "to know Him in the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His suffering."
Jesus was not only crucified in His physical body, but He was also crucified in His very nature. The scripture says, that He being in very nature God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, but instead, He made Himself of no reputation and took on the likeness of human flesh, and being found as man, He humbled Himself and became obedient, even to death on a cross (paraphrased). Jesus laid aside His divine nature for our sakes.
We too are called upon to be crucified with Christ, if we hope to attain the resurrection from the dead. Jesus said to His disciples if any man would come after Me, He must deny himself, take up his cross and follow me. Taking up our cross is the sacrificial suffering we endure for His sake. We must also crucify the deeds of the flesh (our sinful nature); thus, being crucified with Him.
My challenge to you is to examine your life in light of Matthew 5, 6 and 7 (The Sermon on the Mount). Begin in prayer with Psalm 139:24-25. As the Holy Spirit speaks to you, you should begin to move through the three "C's" of repentence:
Your Reward - Promises of: Forgiveness (1 John 1:9) and a clean start; If any man be in Christ he is a new creation; old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new!
As an Ambassador of Jesus Christ, I beseech you, beloved, as though Christ were making His appeal through me, be reconciled to God! Repent! The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!

- Conviction - the Holy Spirit will bring conviction in areas that need attention. He will also lead you into all truth; you should come away from this experience feeling hopeful, not condemned.
- Confession - this is not just a verbal admission of your sin, but should also be marked by a heart that is contrite, expressing remorse - a sincere sorrow unto repentence. See Psalm 51
- Contrition (also Repentence) - this is the point where you are ready to "turn from" your sinful way and turn back to God.
Your Reward - Promises of: Forgiveness (1 John 1:9) and a clean start; If any man be in Christ he is a new creation; old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new!

The Role of The Way Maker
"What we see is that anyone united with Jesus gets a fresh start, is created new. The old has gone; a new life burgeons! Look at it! All this comes from the God who settled the relationship between us and Him, and then called us to settle our relationships with each other. God put the world square with Himself through Jesus Christ, giving the world a fresh start by offering forgiveness of sins."
"God has given us the task of telling everyone what He is doing. We're Christ's representatives. God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God's work of making things right between them." 2 Corinthinas 5:17-19 (Msg)
"We are therefore, Christ's Ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: be reconciled to God!" 2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV)

Forgiveness
Nelson Mandela portrayed by Morgan Freeman in Invictus, encourages his aid to embrace forgiveness.
"If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrather, for it is written, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay", says the Lord. On the contrary, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head. Do not be overcome by evil; but overcome evil with good."
Romans 12:18-21

The Word of My Testimony
Last night, I ministered at my monthly service before a small congregation in Silver Spring, MD, on the subject of "From Generational Bondage to Generational Blessings." Of course, I ministered out of my own testimony regarding the horrific incident in my family over the holidays (see previous post). I have to say it was the Lord's doing, and it was marvelous in my eyes! After the message, a woman came up to me and said she was struggling with a decision in her family (meeting her husband for the first time after 20 years of the breakup of their marriage). She was now able to move forward in the spirit of forgiveness after hearing the message. I was just in awe at what God did! Sometimes you never know what God will use to help someone else. It's so easy to keep it to yourself thinking that nobody cares. But God cares. Often times we go through things just so we can be a blessing and encouragement to someone else.
So please, let me encourage to share your testimony; share your struggles and how God has helped you. You'll be surprised at what God will do! Prepare the way of the Lord in someone's life today.
